Singing in Head Tone?

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 19, 2010, 8:39 PM

Can anyone here explain to me how that works? I've been reading some stuff about it and the technical jargons only confuses me.

  • Listening to: my children at play

It's singing in higher tones without resorting to falsetto. It's something that for most people is much harder to do than falsetto, because in falsetto the the vocal chords don't close completely. Head voice, the vocal chords do close completely(to the extent of whatever pitch you're going for), so you have to use more air and more control to be able to produce a sound. I figured out how to sing with my head voice instead of falsetto while trying to imitate Cam Pipes from 3 Inches of Blood. I didn't realize that's what I was doing until later, when I started reading up on it.
Also, the head voice can reach pitches higher than falsetto, because the amount of air used is so much greater that you can vibrate your vocal chords at higher frequencies and have greater control over the tone and color of your voice. If you can learn to use head voice, it's a much better method of singing than falsetto.

kapag nahilo ka after a few minutes of singing..you'll know it's head tone.

Head voice refers to a higher vocal range, and where you're resonating from. Picture resonance as a ball of energy. If you start singing from low to high, envision this ball of energy (resonance) traveling up, starting in your chest (like an opera singer), moving into your throat, and finally, moving up into your head. If you feel a buzzing feeling in your head, you're using your "head voice". You can feel this by buzzing like a bee(zzzzzzz). The resonance in your head may also cause a dizzy feeling since your skull is vibrating/resonating.

Using head voice doesn't make anyone a better singer. It's simply the placement of resonating tone.

I tried what you said and I just went dizzy but I still didn't know how to project a sound from my head. Damn, this head tone stuff almost sounds paranormal, I'm more curious to learn it!

when singing with your diaphragm, think of it as singing from deep down. or you can think of it as using the same technique you use to scream or project your voice, just doing it consciously.

Is that like singing while holding your guts in?

lol, no. just think about what happens when you yell someone's name: you take a deep breath and literally scream from your abdomen. controlling the pitch, length and breath is all singing is...oh yeah, and talent.
