Dark monitor, not and back again

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 28, 2011, 9:37 PM

As the title says, it's been a while that my monitor keeps switching from being too dark to being fine and I've done a lot of calibration just to keep up with the changes.

BUT.

The problem is, I have no idea how my works is viewed by other people anymore. I could be over-rendering stuffs that won't appear anyway on other people's screen or under-rendering because my screen is too dark and giving away unintentional half-assed works. I'm paranoid.

I think you should send it to a computer store or find someone who can fix your monitor.

Just post something you've made right now and I can tell you what it looks like. I used to have problems with my screen (as I'm using a TV screen instead of a monitor for my computer) but was able to fix it using Photoshop's Color Profile for the monitor's settings.

Thanks for the help! I'd like to hear more of the color profiles you mention, I haven't tinkered much on the PS settings and I'm looking forward to getting some info on that.

It's been awhile since my screen's been like this. You can check out my recent works to see if things are generally dark.

Sure. Fortunately for me I work with a former IT guy and employee at a computer repair shop, AND that I have repaired computers myself so we were able to get through it quickly.

It turns out PS (I use Elements) has its own color profile(s) that it uses whenever it turns on. The one is called Adobe sRGB - that is what virtually EVERYTHING uses from printers to browsers for displaying colors and it ensures that the colors will appear the same on anything else.

To use it, if you use Windows, click on Display Settings in the Control Panel and select the Color Management tab and click "add" to browse your hard drives for Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\Color...

select the profile and click Set to Default. If you have any other profiles in the Color Management list, remove them, since you can only use 1 at a time and it would chose the first one in the list anyway.

Restart the computer. Done! Let me know if it worked!

BTW, all your pictures look fantastic to me as far as the colors are concerned, not too dark or light.
