Art Materials Online

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 10, 2011, 12:35 AM

I've never bought art materials online and was looking for any site that you guys could recommend. Googling gives me lots of suggestions but I'd rather take it from your experiences.

Thanks!

The cheapest, most reliable place I know of is Jerrys Artorama. [link]

Thanks Diana!

By the way, do you have any tip for me. I've started inking with dip pens (and I love it!) and how do I keep my inks from flowing almost all out in just a few strokes? It's annoying to dip every 3 small lines or so just because it keeps on flooding out. I'm using Hunt School, by the way. It was ok in the beginning and I was able to ink a few pages with no problem so I'm sure pen pressure isn't the issue.

Also, how does one know when to replace the nib, when it starts acting differently?

Well it happens, when you need to do longer strokes just don't press down, that'll use all the ink right away. Instead, build up the line with a couple of strokes. And do you know how to break in your nib when you start using a new one?

If your nib starts spreading and not going back, turn it over and gently press it down while its upside down. That'll "bend" the nib back.

Wow, I didn't know I had to do those. That's really interesting and thanks for the "bend the nib right back" tip!

Yeah its basically about stressing the metal gently, so that it is more flexible. After a while of stress though it'll snap (mine usually last half a dozen pages or so).
